How RS Development Group Works
One Mission. Two Roles.
RS Development Group was created to address two connected challenges in rural Vermont: the shortage of housing and the lack of safe, stable, permanent housing options for survivors of domestic violence.
Our model brings development and nonprofit housing together while keeping their roles distinct.
RS Development Group develops the property.
The nonprofit holds the home and carries the charitable mission.
The survivor gets a place to begin again.
What is RS Development Group?
RS Development Group is the development organization behind the work.
We identify overlooked or underused properties, reclaim and restore them, and develop them into private, single-family homes with a larger community purpose.
We believe development can be about more than building and selling.
It can be about building something that lasts.
What Happens to the Property?
The homes are not developed to be sold once they are complete. Their purpose is to remain.
For the first resident, that means a private home where they can find safety and stability while deciding what comes next. And when their journey eventually takes them somewhere new, the home stays.
Another survivor can walk through the same door and find the same opportunity to begin again.
The property is permanent. The resident's future is their own.
Our first property is The Olive House. As additional properties are developed, each will become its own nonprofit with its own identity, and mission while remaining part of the larger RS Development Group model.
A Survivor is More Than What They Survived.
We don't define a survivor by what happened to them.
The purpose of these homes isn't to keep someone defined by their experience of domestic violence. It's to provide the stability and privacy they need to rebuild whatever comes next.
The next chapter might mean a new job, building a support system, raising children somewhere safe, finding another home, or simply rediscovering what it feels like to live without fear.
The home provides the foundation.
The survivor decides what to build from it.
The Olive House
The Olive House is the first property that will be established through this model. It is a private, single-family home created to provide safe, stable, and permanent housing for a survivor of domestic violence.
The name reflects what we hope the home represents:
Peace. Resilience. Rootedness. Renewal.
At this time, The Olive House is pending its nonprofit status, but we're beginning work now.
Building Homes That Last.
RS Development Group and the individual properties have distinct roles, but share a common vision:
Take what has been forgotten.
Restore it with purpose.
Create a safe home.
Keep that home serving survivors.
Because the goal isn't simply to build another house.
It's to create a permanent place where someone can begin again.
